2026 Postgraduate Program Application Guide for International Students

Ι. Introduction to Huaian University (HAU)

Huai’an University (HAU, formerly known as Huaiyin Institute of Technology), founded in 1958, is located in Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province—the hometown of Premier Zhou Enlai and a renowned historical and cultural city in China. As a government-run university with distinctive applied features under Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, it is currently a master’s degree-conferring unit, a construction unit of Jiangsu Province’s first-class applied undergraduate universities, and a project construction unit for doctoral degree authorization. HAU has modern libraries, complete sports facilities, student activity centers, as well as advanced teaching equipment and laboratories. Currently, there are over 24,000 registered full-time students, including more than 1,500 post-graduate students. HAU has more than 1,400 full-time faculty members, including about 700 post-graduate supervisors. The school has 6 provincial key disciplines during the 14th Five Year Plan period and 6 disciplines in the top 1% of ESI global rankings. HAU actively promotes the academic internationalization and has established friendly and cooperative relations with 60 colleges and universities in 22 countries and Taiwan region. It has initiated joint undergraduate programs and postgraduate programs with them. It has two brand majors of International Talents Training in the colleges and universities of Jiangsu Province, 2 Joint International Research Laboratory programs, 1 key platform construction program of overseas high-level talents instruction and 3 foreign expert studios. The School of International Education (SIE) was founded in 2016, awarded by Jiangsu Province Advanced Group for International Students Education many times, and it has enrolled and educated nearly 500 international students from 42 countries, including both undergraduates and postgraduates.

II. Study Mode & Duration

The mode of study is full-time. The normal duration of Postgraduate Programs is 3 years. HAU implements the autumn enrollment. The autumn semester starts from September.

Ⅳ. Application Requirements

1. The Applicant must be a non-Chinese citizen holding a valid foreign passport. The original citizens of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than 4 years (inclusive), and have a record of actual residence abroad for more than 2 years within the last 4 years (before April 30 of the year of the enrollment year) (Actually living abroad for 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, subject to entry and exit signatures).

2. Applicants for postgraduate programs should be excellent current undergraduate graduates who have good academic achievements in the undergraduate stage and meet the graduation conditions or should be previous undergraduate graduates who have obtained a bachelors degree.

3. Applicants for postgraduate programs shall not be older than 35. Applicants shall be physically and mentally healthy, and well behaved.

4. Language requirements:

(1) For English-instruction programs, applicants must have IELTS 5.5 or above, TOEFL 75 or above or Duolingo 90 or above or other equivalent English proficiency certificate. If the pre-courses use English as the medium of instruction, the above certificates of English proficiency are not required, but relevant certificate that the teaching language is English shall be provided. For applicants whose native language is English, certificates of English proficiency as mentioned above are not required.

(2) For Chinese-instruction programs, applicants should have HSK 4 or above certificate.

5. The applicant should voluntarily abide by Chinese laws, regulations and school rules and regulations, know China and have not been subject to any disciplinary action or criminal punishment.

6. Fresh undergraduate students who fail to obtain graduation certificates and bachelors degree certificates on time will have their admission automatically canceled.

 

V. Application Documents

3. Undergraduate study transcript, which must bear an official seal. If the original document is in a language other than Chinese or English, a notarized copy in Chinese or English must be attached.

4. Bachelors degree certificate. If the applicant is a student in school, a pre-graduation certificate with official seal issued by the school where the applicant is studying must be submitted.

5. Certificate of no criminal record

6. Chinese proficiency / English proficiency transcript or certificate

7. Applicants must submit a study plan of 600-800 words (Chinese or English version)

8. Two recommendation letters from associate professors or above in a related academic field (English or Chinese version)

9. Statement of financial support

10. Deposit certificate (bank statement in recent 6 months)

11. Physical examination report within 6 months

(Download the Foreign Physical Examination Form and go to a regular local hospital to complete the examination. The form must to be written in Chinese or English and the official seal must to be stamped on the photo.)

*Notes

(1) Documents not in Chinese or English shall be attached with notarized Chinese / English translations.

(2) The files uploaded must be colored scan copies of the original ones. The original copy should be provided for future reference at the beginning of the academic term.

 

VI. Application Procedure

VII. Review and Admission

1. School preliminary review

2. Participate in school interview and assessment

3. Issuing pre-admission letters

4. Pay the pre-payment of tuition (3,000 yuan) within the specified date (If overdue, it will be deemed waived)

5. Issue formal Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Foreign Students in China (Form JW202)

6. Register at the school at the specified time (in September of each year, the specific date is subject to the admission notice)

 

VIII. Fees for Studying at HAU (RMB)

1. Registration fee: 400 yuan per person (no refund)

2. Tuition: 20,000 yuan/year

3. Teaching materials: 800 yuan/year (to be paid after registration)

4. Accommodation fee:

(1) 2,600-3,000 yuan/person/year (double room or three-person suite with two bedrooms and one living room);

(2) 4,000-6,000 yuan/person/year (single room)

5. Comprehensive medical insurance: 600 yuan/person/year

 

IX. Scholarships

1. Upon admission, new students can apply for the Freshmen Scholarship for International Students of HAU, which includes the following benefits:
